Gustavo Gómez became Palmeiras’ most decorated player after the Campeonato Paulista triumph on Sunday, a 2-1 win against Novorizontino. The captain lifted the state trophy.
According to Globo.com, the centre-back, at the club since 2018, now has 13 titles, moving clear of Ademir da Guia, Dudu (forward), Junqueira, Marcos Rocha, Mayke and Weverton, all on 12.
Raphael Veiga, currently on loan at América do México, did not play the final but featured in the campaign and also reaches 12.
With 393 appearances for Palmeiras, the 32-year-old is a major leader at the club and an important voice in the dressing room.
From the current group, only Gómez, Marcelo Lomba, Piquerez, Murilo and Flaco López had already been champions with Palmeiras. The rest of the squad celebrated a first title at the club.
Before the final, Gómez said the newcomers are good men, which made their adaptation easier, and that Palmeiras has long built an identity grounded in values and work. He added that they adapted quickly and did not cause any problems. He said the new group deserved to contest the Paulistão final and that he and senior players try to help them win a first title and begin their story at a very important club.
