Gustavo Gómez will miss Palmeiras’ tie with Fortaleza at 16:00 on Sunday in the Copa do Brasil last 16 after tests on Friday confirmed a right hamstring injury. He has begun treatment with the club’s health and performance unit.

According to Globo.com, the injury is considered moderate, and the centre-back has a strong record of recovery with few absences.

Elsewhere on Friday, defender Bruno Fuchs continues his recovery following appendicitis surgery, while forward Paulinho trained in full with the squad and should return to the weekend list. He sat out the win over Vitória due to a sprain of his left ankle.

At the Academia de Futebol, the squad completed activation in the centre of excellence, then moved outside for technical and tactical work, including movement, finishing and game simulations.

But for Gómez’s absence, Abel Ferreira was likely to repeat the line-up used in the rout of Vitória, using three centre-backs with Allan on the right, Piquerez on the left and Mauricio, Arias and Ramón Sosa in attack. To keep that shape now, Emiliano Martínez is an option, as he was against Atlético-MG.

A possible XI is: Carlos Miguel; Murilo, Emiliano Martínez and Barboza; Allan, Marlon Freitas, Andreas Pereira and Piquerez; Mauricio, Jhon Arias and Ramón Sosa.
