Gustavo Gómez suffers hamstring injury, out of Fortaleza first leg

Club captain Gustavo Gómez has sustained a right hamstring injury and is out of Palmeiras' Copa do Brasil last-16 first leg against Fortaleza on Sunday at Nubank Parque, kick-off 16:00.
According to Nosso Palestra, the Paraguayan defender has begun treatment with the club’s health and performance unit after scans confirmed the issue. Bruno Fuchs remains out as he recovers from appendicitis surgery.
Palmeiras trained on Friday at the Academia de Futebol after activation work in the Centro de Excelência. Abel Ferreira oversaw technical and tactical drills including movement, finishing and game simulations.
Players who logged more minutes in the win over Vitória in the Campeonato Brasileiro were released early.
Paulinho, absent last time with a sprained left ankle, completed a second full session and continues to progress towards availability.
Palmeiras reached the last 16 by knocking out Jacuipense with two wins, 3-0 in São Paulo and 4-1 in Londrina.
This is the club’s 31st Copa do Brasil campaign and their 28th appearance in the last 16. They are seeking a 19th quarter-final.
Across the competition, they have 96 contests, four titles, 66 progressions, one runners-up finish and 25 eliminations.
Under Abel Ferreira, Palmeiras have played 72 knockout contests, delivering 50 progressions or titles. In the Copa do Brasil, he has 15 knockout ties, with one title, nine progressions and five eliminations.
