Palmeiras have extended captain Gustavo Gómez's contract until the end of 2030, confirmed on Monday.

The announcement was made on the club's social channels, where the centre-back read a letter saying he had found his place in the world and that there was still much to win together. According to Nosso Palestra, the 33-year-old has told those close to him he aims to remain with Palmeiras until near the end of his career, though he does not rule out returning to Paraguay to retire.

On 17 August, club president Leila Pereira commented on the defender's future.

Gustavo Gómez does not see himself leaving the club in the short term and wants to keep building his story and records with the Alviverde.

At Palmeiras since 2018, the Paraguay international is regarded as one of the club's greatest idols.
