Corinthians lost 2-1 to Cruzeiro in the 23rd round at Neo Química Arena, yet Gustavo Henrique's strike confirmed 2026 as the most prolific season of his career.
Per Ogol, his previous best was five for Santos in 2019. The 33-year-old came through at Santos and debuted on 17 June 2012 in a 1-0 defeat to Flamengo. He later featured for Flamengo, Fenerbahçe in Türkiye and Real Valladolid before joining Corinthians in early 2024.
His latest strike came 12 minutes into the second half, Rodrigo Garro's free-kick to the back post prompting a misjudged punch from goalkeeper Otávio. The loose ball sat up and Gustavo Henrique volleyed in to level the match.
His sixth of the year makes him Corinthians' second-highest scorer this season, behind Yuri Alberto on eight. He is now on 12 goals for the club and ranks fourth among the team's highest-scoring centre-backs this century.
He trails Balbuena on 15 and Gil on 19, with Chicão leading on 42, a tally aided by his regular free-kick and penalty duties.
Corinthians host Rosario Central on Thursday at 21:30 in the Libertadores last 16 second leg. After a 0-0 first leg, a simple win would take them into the quarter-finals.
