Memphis Depay is close to renewing his Corinthians contract after it expired on 31 July. According to Meu Timao, talks have lasted longer than first expected but should be settled within hours.

The need for reinforcements was evident in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Red Bull Bragantino in the 22nd round at Estádio Municipal de Bragança Paulista, with four attacking absentees, plus midfielder Zakaria Labyad, who can also play on the wing.

Absentees included Yuri Alberto, diagnosed with a grade 2 muscle injury in the back of his right thigh, Kayke, still recovering from ACL surgery on his left knee, and Vitinho, recuperating from meniscus surgery on his left knee, as well as Memphis. Labyad has sustained ACL and meniscus ruptures in his left knee and is out for the season.

Speaking after that victory, defender Gustavo Henrique said players do not know the full details of the negotiations and are hoping for a positive outcome. He praised Memphis’ impact when on the pitch and, with so many injuries, said the team will need everyone at 100 percent, adding they want it resolved as quickly as possible.

The expectation is that Depay signs and returns to training as soon as possible and, if fit, strengthens the side for the first leg of the Libertadores last 16 against Rosario Central of Argentina at the Estádio Gigante de Arroyito on Thursday 13 August at 21:30.
