Corinthians reached the Campeonato Paulista semi-finals after beating Portuguesa 8-7 on penalties at Canindé on Sunday. According to Meu Timao, out-of-work coach Guto Ferreira lauded Dorival Júnior and called him the perfect choice for Corinthians.
Ferreira said Dorival leaves a legacy wherever he works, stressing his leadership, man-management and know-how. He pointed to the coach's ability to organise struggling sides and guide them towards trophies, speaking on TV Gazeta's Mesa Redonda programme.
Dorival arrived at Parque São Jorge in April 2025 after a failed attempt to bring back Tite. Since then he has overseen 56 matches, winning 25, drawing 15 and losing 16, with the Copa do Brasil in 2025 and the Supercopa do Brasil in 2026. Corinthians have scored 63 goals, an average of 1.13 per game, and conceded 48, at 0.86 per match.
Ferreira had praised him before, highlighting in September how Dorival trusted academy talents during an injury-hit spell. Prospects Breno Bidon, Gui Negão, André Luiz, Kayke and Dieguinho were among those given chances.
Corinthians visit Cruzeiro at Mineirão on Wednesday at 20:00 in the fourth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. At the weekend, still to be scheduled, they face Novorizontino at Estádio Doutor Jorge Ismael de Biasi, the Jorjão, for a place in the state final against Palmeiras or São Paulo.
