Erling Haaland says Sunday’s huge Premier League clash at home to Arsenal is just the latest in a series of ‘finals’ that await City between now and the end of the season.
Pep Guardiola’s side welcome the Gunners to the Etihad for an eagerly awaited clash that brings together the league leaders and nearest title challengers.
Going into the game, Arsenal hold a six-point advantage at the top of the table. City however have a crucial game in hand and a victory this weekend would see us narrow the gap even further.
For Haaland though, it’s just another key assignment for City with every game now assuming major importance as the Blues chase silverware both in the Premier League and FA Cup having already secured the Carabao Cup.
“For sure, it is a big part of the title decider. But there’s still plenty of games left and we have a final every single week now,” Haaland pointed out.
“Last week against Chelsea was a final, now against Arsenal it is another final.
“There’s plenty of games to play and this is a really important one.
“[Our mentality is] Really good. The last game against Chelsea was an amazing game for us.
“We started a bit sloppy, but we finished really strong.
“We are doing good and we are hungry for more. We need to continue and try to play our game as always.
“Don’t think too much, play engaging football, try to enjoy the game and win games.
“Of course. City is a club that you should come to and win trophies.
“We won a trophy a few weeks ago which was a nice feeling. We have to build on that.
“We have to want more and win trophies every single season because that is the standard that we have here at Manchester City.”
Given the mathematics in the table and the competition between the two clubs, Sunday’s clash is a game that has already captured global attention and anticipation.
Haaland however said his overriding focus was on ensuring his mind was free of any tension or anxiety and seeking to stay relaxed and focused.
“Of course, it is important [to be ready]. I have always said that you need to take care of your body,” the Norwegian striker continued.
“But for me, the mind and being in a good state of mind is really important.
“Now, it is a huge game coming up. You should stay calm in your head and don’t think of too much, because that’s the worst thing that can happen.
“How do I prepare? It’s to train good, it’s to prepare well tactically with the team and it is trying to be free in your mind.
“Don’t think too much, don’t overthink too much, think positively and try to get ready for the game mentally and physically.
“It is my job [to be prepared properly].
“City pay me money to be in the best shape and be the best Erling Haaland as possible so I should respect City and do everything I can to give back the best version of ourselves, both in training and especially in games.”
