Erling Haaland has hailed Gianluigi Donnarumma as a 'madman' and said the Manchester City goalkeeper gives his side so much confidence.

Donnarumma produced a brilliant stoppage-time save from Bryan Mbeumo to preserve City's lead as Enzo Maresca's side secured a 1-0 win at Manchester United.

Haaland scored the only goal of the game in a controversial moment, as 10-man City claimed bragging rights at Old Trafford, despite Phil Foden's first-half red card.

The Norwegian turned in his fourthPremier League goal of the campaign, with VAR controversially overturning the verdict to disallow the effort for offside, after deeming Enzo Fernandez was not interfering with Lisandro Martínez's attempts to clear.

Haaland's goal was his ninth in only eightPremier League appearances in the Manchester Derby and saw him surpass Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney as the fixture's record scorer.

The goal was a huge slice of luck for the Cityzens, who maintain their 100% record under Maresca and move level on points with leaders Arsenal.

In a match of massive moments, Donnarumma came up trumps in the dying seconds. Bruno Fernandes' pass found Mbeumo free in the area, but the Cameroonian was thwarted by the City's goalkeeper from point-blank range.

Haaland praised the stop and compared Donnarumma to a 'wolf in the goal'.

Speaking toSky Sports at full-time, he said: "What a save from Gianluigi Donnarumma at the end as well. He's like a wolf in the goal, he looks like a wolf anyway. He's a madman and to have a guy like that in the goal behind you just makes you feel so much more safe."

On his goal, Haaland added: "I thought maybe someone flicked it. When I found out no one flicked it, I took it personally that they thought I was offside because I'm never usually offside. It's always nice to win football games, but especially with 10 men for 60 minutes at Old Trafford, it's such a nice feeling, especially with the fans at the end. To look at all the faces of the supporters at the end is just a great feeling."
