Habib Beye was confirmed by Marseille on Wednesday night and has just one training session to prepare Friday's Ligue 1 visit to Brest at 20:45, the first step in a needed reset.
Sacked by Rennes on 9 February while they were sixth after taking one point from 12, he will be on the OM bench immediately. According to L'Équipe, he has signed an 18-month contract.
His arrival was delayed by Medhi Benatia resigning on Sunday then being reinstated on Tuesday morning, and by a legal row with Rennes. A settlement before Wednesday morning's ruling enabled his signing, while Benatia's remit currently runs only to season's end.
Beye will lead a first session on Thursday after a pre-match press conference that doubles as his presentation. It ends Pancho Abardonado's interim, which included letting a two-goal lead slip in a 2-2 draw with Strasbourg.
Fixing that recurring flaw is central to targets. Champions League qualification is deemed essential at OM, and owner Frank McCourt reminded players on Tuesday that a podium finish is crucial and realistic, with Marseille five points off third-placed Lyon, who visit on 1 March.
The Coupe de France also looms. Beye knows Marseille have not lifted it since 1989, having lost the 2006 and 2007 finals as a player. He lacks Roberto De Zerbi's early aura at Brest, a 5-1 win, and Gennaro Gattuso's reign ended there 1-0.
