Olympique de Marseille have appointed Habib Beye as head coach, the club announced. The former Senegal international right-back returns to the Vélodrome and succeeds Roberto De Zerbi.

Beye spent four seasons with OM from 2003 to 2007, captaining the side before moving to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

He later turned to coaching with Red Star, winning National 1 in 2024 before leaving at the end of his contract. In early 2025 he replaced Jorge Sampaoli at Rennes and guided Les Rouge et Noir out of the relegation zone.

A poor run and flashpoints with senior players brought his Rennes tenure to a close, although the club remain on course to meet their target of European football next season. He was dismissed last week and his departure was formalised today.

Beye now tackles the challenge at Marseille. He will make his OM debut on Friday against Brest.
