Rennes president Arnaud Pouille has confirmed to Ligue 1+ that Habib Beye would remain at the helm of Les Rouge et Noir for the time being. Beye’s position as Rennes head coach was hanging by a thread this week following his side’s deflating home loss to Nice on Sunday. The Senegalese even thought his fate was sealed on Monday when he was summoned for a meeting with Pouille.
In the end, Beye was tasked to lead Rennes at Toulouse. Unfortunately for the Bretons, but not for the first time this season, they cheaply surrendered a 2-0 lead and allowed Toulouse to restore parity in the second half, thus extending their winless streak to six Ligue 1 games.
Despite this latest setback, Pouille gave Beye a vote of confidence. “We just told the group (about Beye staying put). Everyone knows, we need results, we need to move forward. There was some quality tonight, a bit of fragility too, but we’ll continue to work together and find solutions.“
Beye added that he will now prepare for a make-or-break game against fourth-placed Strasbourg on Sunday at Roazhon Park. “We’re going to prepare it with the energy we’ve shown all week“, said the former Newcastle United full-back. “It’s been a pretty crazy week with everything we’ve been through. That’s how it is, that’s what a coach has to experience.“
