Haiti defeated Chile 2-1 at a FIFA Women’s World Cup Intercontinental play-off final to join the group of England, Denmark and China.
Portugal also secured their place at this summer’s finals, beating Cameroon 2-1 to go into a group consisting of the USA, Vietnam and the Netherlands.
Melchie Dumornay scored on half-time for Haiti and after Nérilia Mondésir’s 89th-minute penalty was saved by Chile’s Christiane Endler, the 19-year-old doubled her tally deep into added time. María Rojas pulled a goal back but Haiti reached the finals for the first time.
There was late drama too as Portugal progressed with a stoppage-time penalty. Diana Gomes had them ahead for much of the game, until Ajara Nchout levelled after 89 minutes, only for Carole Costa to restore the lead from the spot.
The last World Cup berth will be decided late tonight, when Paraguay play Panama for the right to complete the group of France, Jamaica and Brazil.
