Al-Taawoun’s difficult start has deepened ahead of Saturday's Roshn League visit of Al-Hilal to Buraidah, with Abderrazak Hamdallah and Basem Al-Areeni both sidelined.

The hosts are winless after three draws and three defeats, sitting fourteenth on three points. The club said in a statement that tests confirmed a medial collateral ligament injury to Al-Areeni’s right knee and that he faces a treatment and rehabilitation programme of four to six weeks.

Al-Areeni had been lined up to lead the line while Hamdallah recovers from the injury he sustained against Al-Fateh last Saturday in the fifth round.

The 22-year-old topped the scoring charts in the first edition of the Elite Jawwy League, the Saudi Under-21 League, with 20 goals, prompting Serbian coach Zarko Lazetic to promote him to the first team.

Since the campaign began he has appeared in six matches for Al-Taawoun, each time from the bench, and is yet to record a goal or an assist.
