Hamza Choudhury is closing in on a permanent return to Sheffield United, with the midfielder expected to leave Leicester City before Tuesday’s transfer deadline. A deal is progressing and is likely to be completed before the 11pm cut-off.

Sheffield Star reports that a medical is scheduled for Sunday and that an ‘effectively free’ agreement is in place between the clubs, with Chris Wilder’s side keen to finalise in time for Tuesday’s Championship game against Bolton Wanderers.

The 28-year-old has been at Leicester since the age of seven. After two loans at Burton Albion, he broke through in 2017 and has made 166 senior appearances.

He spent 2022/23 with Watford, then helped Leicester win promotion to the Premier League in 2024. He then went close to another promotion with Sheffield United, who lost the play-off final to Sunderland.

Choudhury featured in Leicester’s first three matches under Russell Martin, but was omitted against Ipswich Town and MK Dons last week. He had been linked with Derby County, though a return to Bramall Lane now looks likely.

The move has followed an injury to first-choice right-back Femi Seriki. Leicester are also braced for exits, with Wout Faes and Stephy Mavididi expected to depart and interest in Harry Souttar, Caleb Okoli and Oliver Skipp.
