Newcastle United have joined the competition for Leicester City’s 18-year-old midfielder Louis Page, according to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey. The English youth international attracted serious attention after producing two assists in Leicester’s 4–3 away win against Stockport County.

Newcastle sent representatives to watch Page during that match. However, they weren’t alone. Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton, Sunderland, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund had scouts present. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have previously tracked the teenager.

Page has drawn comparisons with Jude Bellingham because of his technical ability, maturity in possession and influence from midfield. Manchester United previously tried to sign him in August, but Leicester rejected their €12 million (£10.4m) offer.

Leicester now want €14m (£12.1m) guaranteed, with the package potentially reaching €18m (£15.6m) through performance-related add-ons. Page remains under contract until 2029, while Newcastle haven’t submitted a formal offer.

Why could Newcastle United pursue Page?

Page’s two assists in five League One appearances provide an encouraging early return, although those numbers alone don’t establish his long-term ceiling. His performance against Stockport offers more useful evidence. He created a decisive attacking impact while operating against senior opposition.

The midfielder’s profile suggests a player who can receive under pressure, carry the ball through midfield and deliver passes into advanced areas. Those qualities would give Newcastle another option for progressing possession when opponents close central spaces.

Matthias Jaissle’s side could benefit from a younger midfielder with technical variety and athletic energy. The 4–1 defeat against Leeds United and Anthony Elanga’s injury highlight the squad’s current demands, though Page would need time to adapt.

Would Newcastle United benefit from an early deal?

Newcastle’s interest makes sense as a long-term recruitment move rather than an immediate solution. Page’s age and reported ability give him room to develop, while his contract means Leicester can negotiate from a strong position.

Manchester United’s rejected bid shows that Leicester have already set a substantial valuation. Newcastle could afford the reported fee, but financial capacity doesn’t guarantee a sensible agreement. The club must assess Page’s development plan, playing opportunities and adaptation before committing significant money.

Competition from Dortmund and several Premier League clubs could increase the pressure to act. Still, Newcastle should focus on whether Page’s qualities match Jaissle’s midfield requirements, not simply react to rival interest. A carefully assessed investment would give the teenager a clearer route into senior football.
