Although FC Barcelona have won all of their games in the 2024-25 season up to now, everything is not well at the club. The Catalans are facing an adverse situation in regards to the physical condition of some of their very important players, with the likes of Andreas Christensen, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Marc Bernal, and Ansu Fati all out with injuries.

Frenkie de Jong is another important midfielder who has been sidelined since the last season. The Dutch midfielder is suffering from an ankle issue, and in recent days, there have been conflicting reports about the status of his recovery. Some reports claim that surgery is the best way forward for the Dutchman, especially considering the nature of the problem.

On the other hand, other reports have claimed that he will be able to return to availability without going through such a procedure, and he can actually return to playing in a few days.

As SPORT has reported, the Barcelona head coach, Hansi Flick, himself gave an update on the situation of the midfielder as he spoke to the press ahead of his side’s match against Real Valladolid. The German tactician was hopeful of having the midfielder back as soon as possible:

“I hope he doesn’t need surgery. He’s in the recovery process, and has made significant progress, and now we just have to wait. He’s training well, and we’ll see how things go. Hopefully, he can return after the break, but I can’t confirm that. The medical team is doing a great job.”

This is exactly what all Barcelona fans would be hoping for, especially given the team’s weakened midfield following Marc Bernal’s injury and the departures of Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu. However, Flick has yet to provide a clear answer on whether De Jong will require surgery, leaving uncertainty around this crucial issue.
