It has been a tricky week for Barcelona in terms of injuries, and that was compounded on Friday with two massive blows – that includes news that Joan Garcia required minor surgery on a knee issue, which will see him ruled out of action for the next 4-6 weeks.
As per Diario AS, this was reacted to by Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick during his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Real Sociedad.
“It’s not good for Joan. He was doing a fantastic job, but this happens. We saw Szczesny last season and won three titles with him. We have no doubts with him.”
On top of this, Raphinha has been ruled out until after the international break with a hamstring injury, with these two blows following news that Gavi is sidelined for the next five months with a meniscus problems. Despite this, Flick has chosen to think positively.
“Having injuries happens. We are doing everything to find out why this has happened. It’s our job. We have a great team and we have to adapt. It’s part of my job. I’m a coach and I’m at Barcelona. I love it. It is a test. Everything that is in our power, we try to control.”

Barcelona’s match against La Real will be played at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, with the Spotify Camp Nou not yet ready to host matches. Flick addressed the return to Montjuic when speaking to the media.
“I hope the grass is in good condition. I think they have done a great job to make it so.”
Flick was also asked about Sergio Busquets, who has announced that he will be retiring from professional football at the end of the MLS season in a few weeks’ time.
“Everybody enjoyed his game. He was incredible. His understanding of the game was great.”
