Hansi Flick’s remarkable Barcelona reign has produced another piece of club history, with the German manager breaking two records after Sunday’s emphatic victory over Valencia.

Barcelona’s 5-0 win at Mestalla completed a perfect opening four matchdays and gave Flick’s side the best start in La Liga history in terms of goal difference. 

Barça have scored 17 goals and conceded just two, leaving them with a remarkable +15 differential.

The achievement comes shortly after Flick surpassed Johan Cruyff for the most matchdays spent at the top of La Liga by a Barcelona manager. 

Now, another chapter has been added to his rapidly growing legacy at the club.

According to SPORT, Barcelona’s +15 goal difference after four matches surpasses the previous club record of +11.

James Bellamy’s 1929/30 side, Pep Guardiola’s 2009/10 team and Luis Enrique’s 2014/15 squad had all previously shared the benchmark. 

Each recorded four victories with a +11 goal difference during their respective starts.

Flick’s current side have emphatically gone beyond that mark, as the 17 goals scored across four games have been accompanied by only two conceded.

Barça have also matched the second-best start in La Liga history when it comes to goal difference. 

Real Madrid’s 1958/59 team scored 19 goals and conceded four across their opening four fixtures, producing a +15 differential.

The all-time record, however, remains with another Real Madrid side. Their 1987/88 team scored 21 times while conceding only once, giving them a +20 goal difference.

Interestingly, Barcelona’s current scoring figures are not their best-ever after four matches. 

The club scored 19 goals in the opening four games of the 1949/50 campaign and 21 in 1950/51.

Neither of those teams, however, won all four matches, meaning Flick’s start stands apart for its combination of goals, results and defensive efficiency.

And the German has now broken another record based purely on victories. The win at Mestalla made him the manager with the most victories in his first 80 matches in charge of Barcelona.

Flick has now collected 63 wins during those opening 80 games, moving ahead of two of the club’s most successful modern managers. 

Luis Enrique recorded 62 victories in his first 80 matches, while Guardiola managed 61.
