Hansi Flick was able to lead his FC Barcelona side to another great win last night, as the Blaugranes defeated Villarreal with a 4-1 scoreline to ensure they ended the week at the top of the La Liga table, and also went into the second tie of the Copa del Rey tie against Atletico Madrid in good form.

After the game, the German coach undertook his customary press conference, and talked about different aspects of the match. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Flick appeared quite satisfied with his team’s performance, as he said:

“Whenever we lost the ball, we pressed very well. We won the direct duels before the first goal, with and without the ball, and that was the key to the match: we pressed very well and very quickly.”

When asked about Lamine Yamal, the Blaugrana coach wanted to give credit for the win to the whole team:

“We’re taking care of him. The goals are very important, but the whole team played very well.”

Overall, the German coach was happy with how his team played against one of the stronger sides in Spain:

“We know Villarreal have very fast players. We were playing against the third-placed team, one of the best sides. We can do things better, but I liked what I saw.”

Flick was expecting his team to once again play like this on Tuesday against Atletico Madrid:

“The way we played today was excellent. Tuesday will be different, but we have to play at this level.”

The Barcelona trainer also opened up on his scuffle with Marcelino on the sidelines:

“It was simply the situation. Lamine was lying on the ground and, in the first half, we had put the ball out. They did a great job, but in the end it’s about emotions. We showed fair play; we put the ball out with a player on the ground twice and, when one of our players is on the ground, they should have respected that in the same way.”

For now, FC Barcelona have taken another step in their defense of the La Liga title. But they have a tough task awaiting them in Copa del Rey next, and hopefully, Hansi Flick would be able to overturn the 4-0 deficit from the first leg.
