Harrison Jones has completed a move to Peterborough United on a three-year deal, thanking Sunderland as he departs after a long spell with the club.
His exit was confirmed this week. Sunderland Echo understands that he joined Posh on a free transfer, with a sell-on clause safeguarding Sunderland’s position.
Jones joined Sunderland at the age of six and came through the Academy of Light, making seven senior appearances in all competitions. He posted a farewell on Instagram after the move was announced.
Messages quickly arrived from former team-mates. Luke O’Nien wished him well, Chris Rigg and Trai Hume offered good-luck notes, and Dan Neil responded with a red heart emoji.
The switch offers Jones the chance of regular senior football after a season split between Sunderland’s first team and under-21s. He was on the bench for several Premier League games in 2026, including against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
He viewed the move as timely after long service, describing himself as a versatile midfielder able to play in different roles. He stressed finishing the deal before pre-season and meeting his new team-mates quickly.
His exit comes amid academy changes under Florent Ghisolfi. Sunderland have triggered extensions for prospects including Zak Johnson and Timur Tutierov, appointed John Hewitson as academy manager, and Graeme Murty is set to leave as under-21s lead coach this summer.
