Harrison Jones has thanked Sunderland after sealing a three-year move to Peterborough United, ending a 15-year association with the club. The 21-year-old midfielder joined at six and made seven senior appearances after coming through the Academy of Light.

Sunderland Echo understands the switch is a free transfer with a sell-on clause attached. Jones also posted on Instagram, saying he was delighted to join Posh and grateful to Sunderland for shaping him, while looking forward to getting started.

Team-mates responded on social media, with Luke O’Nien wishing him well, Chris Rigg and Trai Hume offering good-luck messages, and Dan Neil adding a red heart.

The move offers a route to regular senior football after a season around Sunderland’s first-team and under-21s. He was named on Premier League benches in 2026, including against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. Jones called the decision difficult but felt it was the right time to play and described himself as a versatile midfielder keen to be in before pre-season.

His exit comes amid an academy reshaping under Florent Ghisolfi, with contract extensions triggered for several prospects such as Zak Johnson and Timur Tutierov. John Hewitson has been appointed academy manager, and Graeme Murty is set to leave as under-21s lead coach this summer. The changes aim to refresh the pathway and protect value at the Academy of Light.
