Burnley are reportedly in talks to complete a late deal for Manchester United defender Harry Amass.

Uncertain future

Amass’ future at United is far from certain with just hours left until the close of the summer transfer window.

Despite United’s clear need for a left-back, it’s believed the top brass are willing to sanction Amass sale, whether on loan or permanent.

It has been suggested that United are prepared to accept as little as £6m for the Carrington academy graduate.

In the lead-up to United’s victory over Ipswich Town on Sunday, Carrick admitted that Amass could be offloaded. The United boss told reporters, “It comes to this stage and this is the stage of the window, there is always different scenarios. We try and do the best for each individual player while keeping the group strong.”

“We’ve been really pleased with Harry. He had a really good season that didn’t end so well with the injury, he’s done really well in pre-season.”

Norwich’s interest in Amass was previously flagged by The Peoples Person. The left-back joined the Canaries on loan for the second half of last season, but his progress was cruelly halted by a major injury that denied him the opportunity to impress.

Now, Football Insider journalist Peter O’Rourke has revealed that Burnley are in talks to sign Amass.

According to O’Rourke on X, “Exc – Burnley are in talks to sign Manchester United defender Harry Amass.”

“Loan or permanent deal being discussed.”

Amass’s departure would almost certainly force United into the market for a left-back. Their vulnerability in that position was laid bare against Ipswich, where it became abundantly clear that Shaw cannot be relied upon.

Shaw was left for dead for Ipswich’s opener and struggled badly against Abdul Fatawu throughout.
