Harry Amass: Ruben Amorim should avoid temptation of market

Manchester United have had their issues at wing back this season.
The role of the full back is vital in modern football but particularly in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.
Amad has performed well in the role on the right hand side, as he is now coming into form after grabbing another assist yesterday versus Tottenham Hotspur.
Patrick Dorgu has also shown gradual improvement and at 21 years old, he has much time to perfect his craft.
Nonetheless, Amorim seems to prefer Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw as centre backs and Diogo Dalot has been in a rut of poor form for so many months, it seems impossible for him to snap the curse.
Many have talked about summer signing Diego Leon playing a role as back up but he has not even regularly played at youth level in spite of recently scoring a stunning solo goal.
Many have talked about the Red Devils dipping into the transfer market to add wing back depth but they already have the answer much closer to home.
Harry Amass has been in fantastic form for Sheffield Wednesday this season and even scored his first senior goal yesterday with a sensational long-range effort.
The teenager made his senior debut last season and made seven first team appearances in total during the final stretch of the campaign.
Whilst impressing in parts, he did look a little raw at times in a struggling team.
Nonetheless, he has come on leaps and bounds this year in the Championship.
The wingback role is a specialised one but Amass is shining playing as part of a 3-4-3, just like Amorim’s system.
He is regularly impressing in attack as well as defence with strong defensive duels and tackle numbers.
Amass has also been a regular, playing 11 games in the Championship, completing the full 90 minutes in every match except his debut where he played 68.
It’s always tough for a youngster to come into senior football but this has been doubly difficult for Amass considering Wednesday’s financial position.
The club has filed for administration and has been deducted 12 points by the Football League.
For this reason, they languish 13 points adrift of Norwich City in 23rd place.
Many players might droop their heads and soldier on anonymously with his loan spell potentially ending in January.
Nonetheless, Amass has taken the opposite approach and rolled up his sleeves for Sheffield Wednesday.
He has regularly been one of his sides top performers and Ruben Amorim will appreciate this warrior type mentality he wants to instil in the club.
It would be impressive if an 18 year old was putting in such performances in League Two but the fact he is doing it in the Championship just highlights his potential.
He won’t even turn 19 until March but is regularly outperforming seasoned veterans who have a decade over him.
The performance of the likes of promoted Sunderland, Leeds United and Burnley in the Premier League this season show the strength of the second division and there is no reason he couldn’t continue to impress in the increasingly physical, direct Premier League.
Finally, United were close to losing their 88-year record of keeping a youth player in the squad with Kobbie Mainoo’s injury.
Jack Fletcher’s appearance on the bench saved the impressive statistic but it is becoming clear United must return to using their academy.
Amass is one of many talented youngsters but few are playing at such a consistent level as the exciting young fullback.
He has already done enough to be a fan favourite at Sheffield Wednesday but if given the opportunity, he could soon do exactly the same at Old Trafford.
