Harry Amass: United will take final call on his future next summer

Manchester United are mulling over whether to sell academy wonderkid Harry Amass, despite his impressive form out on loan.

Last season, the 18-year-old was handed his United debut by Ruben Amorim, and he earned seven senior caps in total by the end of the campaign.

Given United’s lack of investment out wide last summer, it was expected that the head coach would keep the England U19 international in the squad heading into the new season.

However, rather surprisingly, new recruit Diego Leon was included in the Premier League squad, while the Carrington graduate was shipped out to Sheffield Wednesday out on loan.

Harry Amass shipped out on loan

Despite playing for the cash-strapped outfit, who are rooted to the bottom of the Championship, the London-born ace has continued to impress.

He has started 17 times, registering a goal and an assist, while also being named the club’s Player of the Month for November.

His form has attracted interest from the Championship’s top clubs, while there have even been murmurs of a return to Manchester.

However, Amorim’s recent comments have meant a return is off the table, with the Owls confident of retaining his services for the second half of the season.

His future will be decided next summer

And now, as per The Sun, the Red Devils are having a discussion on what to do with the left-back once he returns from his loan next summer.

His contract is up in 2027, and next summer represents the club’s last chance at earning a decent fee from his sale.

“Several Championship sides – including Millwall and Stoke and others battling for promotion – have registered an interest in Amass.

“United are expected to make a definitive decision on whether to keep or sell him next year as his contract expires in 2027.

Harry Amass & Amorim spat

“United manager Ruben Amorim has struggled to settle on a regular left-sided starter, having played Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu there.

“Despite Amass’ sterling form for Henrik Pedersen’s side, his recent standing at United has taken a hit due to some ill-advised jabs at Amorim.”

Those jabs include responding to Amorim’s “struggles” comment, which had got lost in translation. Harry Amass proceeded to upload a photo on social media, which he quickly deleted later.

It would be a major mistake to sell him, given his obvious potential. Hopefully, United can agree a new deal and if no space opens up in the first team, loan him to a Premier League side in the future.
