Bayern’s unbeaten start to the season and 100 per cent winning record in this season’s Champions League came to an end on Wednesday night in a 3-1 loss at the Emirates Stadium.

A brilliant goal from wonderkid Lennart Karl brought about the equaliser for the Bundesliga giants in an entertaining first half after Jurrien Timber had headed Arsenal in front.

In truth, Arsenal could have won the fixture by a greater margin had it not been for Manuel Neuer making a series of fine saves.

Despite this, the experienced goalkeeper was given a ‘5’ by German publication Bild in their player ratings and unlike, elsewhere in Europe, this does not represent a fairly average performance.

In fact, Bild use the German school grading system. This means ‘1’ is the highest possible grade and ‘6’ is the lowest.

The highest rated Bayern player was Karl with a ‘2’ while Harry Kane scored a ‘4’ and Bild explained the former Tottenham striker was ‘mocked’ by Arsenal fans and wasn’t able to have his usual impact.

Here is how Bild rated the Bayern Munich players: Neuer 5, Laimer 5, Upamecano 5, Tah 4, Stansic 4, Kimmich 4, Pavlovic 4, Olise 4, Karl 2, Gnabry 3, Kane 4.

Meanwhile, Declan Rice was considered the best player on the pitch having been awarded a ‘1’ which isn’t something handed out often by Bild.

That said, it proved to be a difficult night for Myles Lewis-Skelly as he scored the lowest score of all the Arsenal starters, while Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Timber were given a ‘2’ each.

How Bild rated the Arsenal players: Raya 3, Timber 2, Saliba 3, Mosquera 3, Lewis-Skelly 4, Zubimendi 3, Eze 2, Rice 1, Saka 2, Merino 3, Trossard 3.
