Harry Kane reveals his plan: How he wants to break Lewandowski’s record

Harry Kane is still on course for a historic season at FC Bayern. With 30 goals after 24 Bundesliga games, the Englishman is chasing Robert Lewandowski’s legendary goalscoring record – and could even surpass it in the end

Lewandowski set a record of 41 goals in the 2020/21 season, which was long considered almost unattainable. Kane, however, is currently right on target. If the 32-year-old maintains his current scoring rate, he could even end the season with 42 or 43 goals

The attacker also set another record in Munich’s recent 3-2 win in the classic against Borussia Dortmund: Kane scored a brace in the Bundesliga for the fourth time in a row – a historic record

Kane is following a clear record plan

Despite the impressive figures, Kane emphasizes that he does not focus too much on individual records. Instead, the Bayern star works with a clear system. „I don’t look so much at the records themselves and say to myself: ‚I want to break this record now‘,“ explained Kane in an interview with BILD

Instead, the Englishman divides the season into smaller stages. For him, several games each count as a phase for which he sets himself specific goals

„For example, from now until the international break. We have five games. Then I ask: Can I score five goals?“ Kane said, adding that he also analyzes the respective opponents and the difficulty of the games

Champions League games are naturally more complicated, while in some Bundesliga home games there could be more chances to score

Kane has already set himself a specific target for the upcoming international break: „Five games, I expect to be able to score one goal per game,“ explained the goalscorer

Whether it ends up being more or fewer goals can of course never be predicted exactly. „You can score five goals in a game or not score at all in four games,“ said Kane. Nevertheless, he would be happy with five goals in this period

Even more important for him, however, is the team’s sporting success: „Five goals by the break would be a good target – and most importantly: five wins.“

Lewandowski record remains a major challenge

Whether Kane can actually break Lewandowski’s historic record remains an open question for the Bayern star himself. The Englishman shows great respect for the performance of the former Munich goalscorer

„It will be difficult to beat him,“ said Kane, adding that Lewandowski had even missed a few games in his record-breaking season, but had scored several hat-tricks instead

„I think the odds are pretty even at the moment as to whether I can do it or not,“ explained Kane

With ten Bundesliga games remaining, the race for the record remains exciting, and the final games of the season against Mainz, Heidenheim, Wolfsburg and Cologne could be the perfect stage for Kane to start the next stage of his historic goal hunt.
