An avid NFL fan, he went further than before by suggesting his football and kicking ambitions might overlap. He said time in MLS could allow the seasons to align and connect the two.

He pointed to the shared technique and pressure with taking penalties, and said he would treat any attempt seriously. He would plan six months to a year of practice first.

Kane has perhaps taken inspiration from Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, who played professionally for Toronto FC in his early twenties before switching codes.
