Harry Kane has suggested he could explore a future move to the NFL as a kicker, an idea he admits remains uncertain.

According to L'Équipe, the England captain said on Wednesday he would look into it more seriously in the years ahead, while keeping football his priority.

A long-time NFL devotee, the Bayern Munich striker has even named his dogs Brady and Wilson, nods to Tom Brady and Russell Wilson.

If he ever crossed over, it would be as a specialist kicker, called on to score by sending the ball between the uprights. He has argued the pressure and technique are close to taking penalties, and that training would align more with American football than any other sport.

Modern kickers use a soccer-style approach, striking with the instep from an angled run, rather than the old straight-toe method. Kane tried the craft about 10 years ago and looked at ease.

NFL teams have not been shy about recruiting from other codes on kicking duties. In 2025, Irishman Charlie Smyth spent the season with the New Orleans Saints after Gaelic football, while a punting pathway has grown from Australian football.

Examples from association football include Germany’s Horst Mühlmann, Schalke goalkeeper from 1961 to 1966, who played nine NFL seasons, and Austria’s Toni Fritsch, a Rapid Vienna forward from 1963 to 1971 with nine caps, who logged 11 seasons and won Super Bowl VI with Dallas. The Cowboys are also backing Brandon Aubrey this season, a former MLS defender now the league’s highest-paid kicker. Such cases are rare, and no genuine star from another sport has fully tried the NFL.
