Harry Redknapp has picked his best 11 performers from the weekend’s action.
The Premier League team of the weekend that has most impressed him, as well as a manager.
Included in his analysis, I think Harry Redknapp calls it exactly right on what happened with Newcastle United on Saturday, a match that ended Newcastle 1 Bournemouth 4.
Four key individuals picked out from Saturday at St James’ Park.
All four of them obviously representing Bournemouth.
Harry Redknapp quite rightly giving the away side full credit for how they won the game, rather than how Newcastle United lost it.
A former Bournemouth player and manager, Harry Redknapp explaining to BetVictor why he made his choices amongst this Premier League team of the week, further salt in the wounds for NUFC fans, he also includes two young promising players that United were forced to sell in the summer due to PSR reasons:
I’m going with Bernd Leno in goal this week. He’s been a good servant to Fulham in the last few seasons, he’s a very good keeper and had a good day against Leicester. He made a couple of top saves in that first half before Fulham went on to cruise to victory.
It’s been an up and down few weeks for Trent Alexander-Arnold, but he was vital at the weekend. I know there was a bit of fortune about it, but he did well to create that goal for Darwin Nunez, what a moment that was for Liverpool. His attacking output is just ridiculous, he seems to get an assist most weeks.
Crystal Palace are in a good run of form, led by their captain Marc Guehi. He didn’t start the season too well, I think all the uncertainty about his future affected him, but he’s been back to his best and it’s no coincidence that Palace have begun to climb the table. He cruised through the game against West Ham.
What a top, top talent young Dean Huijsen is for Bournemouth. I think he has absolutely everything, he’s got the lot. Him and Illia Zabarnyi kept Alexander Isak so quiet, and he’s so composed, so classy on the ball. Juventus fans must be thinking why they ever got rid of him! He’s already worth double or triple what Bournemouth paid for him.
Another Bournemouth player, Milos Kerkez, must be in the team. I’m a huge fan of him; I don’t see many better left-backs in European football at the minute. He’s just gotten better and better and you saw the energy and quality he had that late on in the game to grab a goal. I just hope Bournemouth can keep hold of him for another year or two.
Yankuba Minteh’s someone that’s caught my eye a few times this season. He’s been a bit up and down this season but there’s no denying the threat he possesses. He was superb for Brighton at Manchester United, he’s rapid but shows a lot of quality on the ball and puts a real shift in defensively.
I’ve liked watching Elliot Anderson this season. I know Newcastle fans weren’t happy that they sold him to Nottingham Forest, and you can see why, he does a bit of everything in that midfield. He’s a proper box-to-box number eight and he’s bound to be in consideration for the England squad.
He’s had a strange season, but Phil Foden looked a lot more like himself in that win over Ipswich. Obviously, he got a couple of goals, but his overall game was much more like the player we saw last season. I can see him and Manchester City going on a very strong run now.
What a goal that was from Iliman Ndiaye against Tottenham, he’s been a shining light in this Everton side. He plays with a real swagger, and you can see why, he’s got loads of talent and I know Sheffield United fans were raving about him a couple of years ago. I think he’ll develop into a big player for David Moyes.
My Player of the Week this week can only be Justin Kluivert, what a hat-trick that was for the Cherries at St James’ Park! Each finish was just fantastic, particularly the last one. He’s always had talent, but he’s bounced around clubs and probably never quite lived up to his potential. He’s in the form of his career now and his father Patrick Kluivert would have been proud of that finishing at the weekend!
He doesn’t get mentioned a lot, but Jean-Philippe Mateta is one of the league’s most underrated strikers. He took his two goals against West Ham well and he’s always a threat, his hold-up play is superb for Palace. That’s him up to eight league goals and I can see him getting well into double figures again.
My Manager of the Week is Andoni Iraola. Bournemouth have had some fantastic results this season but given all the injuries and given Newcastle’s form, that was something else at the weekend. They were brilliant from the first whistle, and he never seems to complain about all these injuries, and he’d have every right to!
