Newcastle United playing Everton this weekend.

A 5.30pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Newcastle United looking to bounce back from that midweek Champions League defeat in Marseille.

Harry Redknapp talking to BetVictor ahead of Newcastle United playing away against Everton:

“What a win that was for Everton the other night at Old Trafford. The less said about the red card the better but the fighting spirit they showed after it was amazing and Moyes must have been so proud of his lads.

“Newcastle are having a really strange, inconsistent season.

“Most of their issues seem to be on the road, they obviously got beat again the other night in Marseille but that’s never an easy place to go.

I just think Everton might still be buoyant and can win this.

“Prediction: Everton 2 Newcastle 1

“One to watch – Jordan Pickford was magnificent against Man U and he’ll love playing Newcastle United, he’s guaranteed to get some stick off those fans!”

My thoughts

This time last week, Harry Redknapp and pretty much all the other pundits thought only one result was possible for Newcastle United. Up against a Manchester City side who had hammered Liverpool 3-0 in their last match and were on a run of eleven wins and only one defeat in their last fourteen games…

Harry Redknapp declaring; “I can see Newcastle giving them a scare, but Man City and Haaland will have too much.”

The reality of course was that Newcastle United and Harvey Barnes had far too much for Man City, so much so that Pep Guardiola couldn’t handle the fact that his team had been outplayed and deservedly beaten, Pep even having a go at a cameraman! Which he last apologised for and said he was ashamed and embarrassed about.

The truth was that Newcastle United were superb, their best performance of the season, creating so many great chances and in reality Harvey Barnes could and should have had four goals himself, whilst Nick Woltemade should have scored at least a couple.

Everton did do really well at Old Trafford on Monday night in terms of their battling defence with ten men and scoring their one chance, but at the same time, Man U were exposed as the team who finished bottom six last season and who still have so many of those poor players.

In midweek, United did lose in Marseille, but it wasn’t a terrible performance despite Eddie Howe having to rotate and play some players who clearly weren’t able to give the kind of levels they showed against Man City having put so much into last Saturday’s match.

Based only on Newcastle’s recent away stats, it is perfectly reasonable for anybody to suggest an Everton win is most likely.

However, if Newcastle can play anything like last Saturday and create anything like the number of great chances they did against Man City, then I think they will win for sure.

Eddie Howe can revert back to the team that did so well against Man City, if he chooses to, with Hall on the left, Tino on the right, Big Nick up front, Joelinton rejoining Tonali and Bruno in the middle of the pitch.
