Manchester City's visit to St. James' Park against a highly-motivated Newcastle United hangs on a knife's edge during a swashbuckling first-half on Tyneside.

Pep Guardiola's men will no doubt feel aggrieved after being denied a potential penalty in the opening 45 minutes, but it's been Eddie Howe's troops that have been the better attacking side thus far.

New star man Nick Woltemade has been difficult to handle as he continues to enjoy his start to life in the Premier League, but a shock miss by Harvey Harnes is perhaps the biggest talking point of the evening.

With Newcastle dangerous on the counter, the former Leicester City star was gift-wrapped an early Christmas present at the back post when he was picked out by Jacob Murphy, but Barnes could only unbelievably flash his effort wide from just outside the six-yard box. 

It was another warning sign for City on the night, but if history has proven anything, it's that Newcastle may rue the guilt-edged chance by the full-time whistle.
