Harvey Elliot, 23, is set to join Valencia on loan from Liverpool, with a deal in place until 30 June. The English midfielder has already agreed to move to Mestalla and is due to undergo a medical in Valencia on Tuesday.

Tribuna Deportiva notes that Valencia have increased the share of his wages they will cover, while the player will forgo part of a payment due from Liverpool.

An England Under-21 international valued at 20 million, Elliot strengthens Carlos Corberán’s attack. He can play centrally and off the right, though pace is not his main asset. Valencia have scored one goal in three league games and only eight shots on target.

Despite his age, Elliot has played more than 150 Premier League matches, 149 with Liverpool, nine with Aston Villa and three with Fulham, plus 42 with Blackburn in the Championship. He spent last season under Unai Emery and Liverpool monitored late interest from other English clubs.

The deal leaves Valencia with minimal Financial Fair Play headroom. Further arrivals will depend on André Almeida’s departure, for budget reasons and to free a squad slot. With Elliot, the 25 registrations are filled unless Diego López is left unregistered.

Ron Gourlay and Corberán had weighed whether to add a striker, a winger or a midfielder. They concluded the team need more control and a final ball in the attacking third to cut out turnovers such as the one that led to Deportivo A Coruña’s second goal at Riazor.
