Sunderland Echo reports that Harvey Elliott is under consideration at Sunderland as Liverpool assess the attacking midfielder in pre-season, prompting questions over fit, impact and a possible £30m fee.

The 23-year-old has 205 senior games, 149 for Liverpool, across the Premier League, Champions League and Europa League, and has won the Premier League and two League Cups.

Elliott is not a touchline winger. He drifts into half-spaces, receives between the lines and supplies the final pass, and can operate as a 10 or invert from the right.

Sunderland seldom used two out-and-out wingers. Enzo Le Fée offered control from the left, and Elliott could mirror that on the right. With Nilson Angulo and Romaine Mundle direct options on the left, a right-sided playmaker fits.

He would raise the level on the right if Chris Rigg is central, with Jocelin Ta Bi and Trai Hume alternatives. He has 15 goals in 149 Liverpool games and quality against deep blocks.

The finances are thornier. Sunderland have tended to buy value abroad, and around £30m would mean a major fee, strong wages and extras near record territory. After nine Aston Villa outings and one goal, Liverpool may find past prices harder to reach, though age and experience could still support a higher figure.

Availability is the first obstacle. Liverpool’s new head coach will review him in pre-season, and Leeds, Palace and Coventry have been linked. Europa League football and a prominent role are selling points, but value and Elliott’s choice remain decisive.
