Antonio Rüdiger’s future at Real Madrid remains unresolved as the season enters its decisive phase. With his contract set to expire in the coming months, the German defender has yet to agree on terms for an extension—despite his importance to the side.

Given the impact he has made since returning to full fitness, one might expect a swift renewal. But according to Fabrizio Romano, the situation is very much up in the air. The Italian transfer insider described Rüdiger’s position as “50:50,” meaning a departure is just as possible as a stay.

Rüdiger’s experience and leadership have been vital for a Madrid backline that has at times looked vulnerable. His presence will be especially crucial in the upcoming Champions League round of 16 first leg against Manchester City.

The same cannot be said for David Alaba. The Austrian defender, whose contract also expires this summer, is widely expected to leave. Injuries have plagued much of his time in Madrid, and his exit is unlikely to come as a surprise—or a significant loss—to the club.
