Kai Havertz believes Arsenal deserved their win after coming from behind to beat Chelsea.
Arsenal ended Chelsea’s unbeaten start under Xabi Alonso with a 2-1 win at the Emirates. The champions were forced to come from behind to claim the win, as Morgan Rogers opened the scoring after just two minutes for Chelsea.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side soon took control of the game and levelled when former Chelsea forward Havertz fired home an equaliser.
Both teams had chances in a thrilling derby contest, but it was Arsenal who came out on top, courtesy of Martin Odegaard’s winner. The Arsenal captain capped a fine move from the North Londoners to lash past Emi Martinez.
Havertz said Arsenal merited the three points, which endured their 100% record in the Premier League so far this season.
“It’s always nice to win at home against a London rival. It was a tough game but over the 90 minutes, we deserved to win that game,” Havertz said, speaking to BBC Match of the Day.
“They have strong players. They have an amazing squad but so do we. We knew it was going to be tough and it’s going to be a tight game. They scored early, so it’s not easy for us but we believed in ourselves and changed the game around.”
