It has been a couple of days since FC Barcelona clinically got past Daegu FC in South Korea with a 5-0 win, wrapping up their pre-season Asian tour in style.

It had been a very successful pre-season for Hansi Flick, who managed to try out different combinations in each game and also gave a chance to some of the youngsters to impress.

Many players caught the eye from a Barcelona perspective, but as quoted by SPORT, Daegu midfielder Bruno Lamas was asked which player from the rival team surprised him the most.

Here is what the midfielder had to say:

“Many players impressed me, but the one that stood out the most was De Jong. I already liked him, but he didn’t lose a single ball and controlled the entire midfield. He’s also very strong in duels. Personally, I was quite surprised.”

Frenkie started the game for Barcelona against Daegu and did not put a foot wrong in the first half. It comes as no surprise that Lamas picked the Dutchman.

Interestingly, this is a pattern that is emerging with the club captain. Most opposition players who face him during a game rate him very highly and have nothing but praise for him.

In fact, one can say that there are Barcelona fans who still don’t understand the value that Frenkie adds to the team, and maybe it is time they listen to the words of some of the opponents.

One good thing, and arguably the thing that matters the most, is that Hansi Flick seems to have a lot of faith in Frenkie. The Dutch midfielder is one of the first names on the team sheet for the German coach.

Let’s wait and see if the 28-year-old can continue his good form in the upcoming 2025/26 season and contribute to the team’s success.
