Chelsea rotate constantly at the moment, looking to keep vulnerable players away from injury, keep young players getting minutes and keep the main group as fresh as possible.

One player who almost never gets a rest is Enzo Fernandez. We fully expect him to be starting later today, despite having racked up two 95+ minute games in the last 7 days.

Lampard quotes on Enzo proved to be correct

His winning goal against West Ham last weekend was just the latest he’s scored in a crucial moment. The Athletic’s piece about him is superb, showing just how far he’s come since arriving at Chelsea in January 2023.

They note a really great quote from Frank Lampard, who took over as interim manager just a couple of months after Enzo joined the club:

“Enzo gets it. He gets what’s required in training, he gets what’s required to be a Chelsea player,” Lampard said.

“He’s got a high talent himself. I’ve got a lot of faith that Enzo will be a big part of what happens here in the future of the club.”

That assessment has proved to be correct. He’s not perfect, but you can’t question his commitment on the pitch, and we can only imagine that attitude is replicated in training too. It was noted yesterday that Enzo has as many goals after 150 Chelsea game as Lampard did.

The club legend then went up a couple of gears – if Enzo does the same, we’re in for a treat.

In other news…

Liam Rosenior’s press conference yesterday saw him hit with many Cole Palmer questions – everyone wants to know if the attacking midfielder will start today. He gave some of them pretty short shrift.

Rosenior’s big demands for this game was that Chelsea treat it like the rest of their games, even though they’re going up against a weaker team. Just like the fans, he wants to see intensity from the first whistle.
