A new Liverpool wonderkid has announced himself in senior football with a Steven Gerrard moment.
The club's former no.8 was the embodiment of what it meant to play for Liverpool.
Gerrard was a leader, a warrior, and a player capable of producing moments of pure magic. Few midfielders in football history combined power, technique, and passion quite like he did, and it’s what made him such a special figure at Anfield.
Gerrard had the rare ability to influence every aspect of the game. He could tackle, pass, drive forward, and inspire those around him, often dragging Liverpool through difficult moments almost single-handedly. His leadership was undeniable, but it was his spectacular goals that truly captured the imagination of fans.
There was something uniquely thrilling about the way Gerrard struck the ball from distance. He had a clean, ferocious technique that made even the most difficult long-range efforts look effortless. Whether it was a rising drive into the top corner or a swerving effort from 30 yards, Gerrard had an incredible knack for scoring from outside the box.
These goals weren’t just aesthetically pleasing. They often came in the biggest moments. From crucial league matches to unforgettable nights in Europe, Gerrard’s long-range strikes had a habit of changing games and lifting the entire stadium.
It became part of his identity. When Gerrard picked up the ball 25 or 30 yards out, there was always a sense that something special might happen. That anticipation, that belief, is what set him apart.
When you're a midfielder in Liverpool's academy you're always going to earn comparisons to the great man.
How many have there been over the years who were dubbed the next Gerrard?
Jordan Lussey, Jay Spearing, Adam Phillips, Herbie Kane, Jordan Rossiter, and there are probably a few names we are forgetting as well.
The truth is, no one will live up to Gerrard's legacy. He is Liverpool's greatest ever player.
But sometimes a player comes along and makes himself look a little bit like Gerrard and that is what Liverpool's latest wonderkid did announcing himself on the senior international stage.
Kyle Kelly has been a regular for St Kitts and Nevis at senior international level for over a year now, despite not yet making his appearance for the club's first-team.
And, against the Solomon Islands in the FIFA Series tournament, the Liverpool academy graduate made his mark with a stunning goal, scoring his first professional goal in senior football.
Kelly picked up the ball around 35 yards from the opposition's goal, took a couple of touches before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net with such force and power that it looked like prime Gerrard had struck the ball.
The goal made it 3-1 for his team and it came at a difficult moment when the scoreline was close, so this was a proper Gerrard moment and it made him briefly look like the Reds' former captain.
A really energetic and technically gifted footballer, it's nice to see Kelly making his mark like this.
Kelly is very versatile which makes him a useful addition in the squad. He'll turn 21-years-old in October and long-term one would imagine the ultimate goal for Kelly will be to go out on loan and earn more experience at senior level.
Liverpool clearly have high hopes for him and that's why they extended his deal last year.
If he continues with performances like that, there may just be an opportunity for him to make his mark in pre-season with the first-team.
He's a name to keep an eye on.
