Hearts beat Hibernian 3-1 at Easter Road on Thursday to rise from fifth to third in the Scottish Premiership.

James Wilson opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing from close range after Josh McPake's supply set the tone.

Laurent Mendy doubled the advantage with a glanced header from Blair Spittal's set piece delivery (43.). VAR confirmed the goal.

After the restart, substitute Adam Mayor halved the deficit with a fine left footed finish into the top corner from Josh Mulligan's pass (51.).

Hibs' hopes faded when Jack Iredale received a second yellow and was sent off (62.).

The Jambos quickly restored control as McPake drilled in a third from the left, teed up by Jamie McCart (66.).

Hibs mustered 17 attempts but found the target only four times. Hearts produced five shots on target from 12 attempts and cleared 43 balls to see it out.
