Heerenveen punish Heracles after VAR drama to stay seventh

Heerenveen 4-1 Heracles at the Abe Lenstra Stadion, a clinical second half keeping the hosts seventh in the Eredivisie.
Early on, Maxence Rivera had a finish ruled out for handball after a VAR review. Mario Engels then put the visitors ahead in the 21st minute. Jacob Trenskow levelled from close range (35.) after Joris Overeem's corner was recycled.
Mimeirhel Benita fouled Marcus Linday to concede a penalty just before the break. VAR confirmed the spot kick, and Lasse Nordas converted in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time.
After the restart, a Remko Pasveer own goal extended the lead (47.). Rivera pounced from point-blank range to add a fourth (51.).
Remko Pasveer made 11 saves as the visitors' goalkeeper worked overtime. Heerenveen controlled long spells, registering 24 attempts with 14 on target and 66.2% possession. Heracles mustered seven attempts.
Heerenveen remain seventh and visit AZ next. Heracles stay bottom and host Ajax next.
