Lauren Hemps says her 200th appearance for the Club, a stellar 90-minute performance in City’s 3-1 WSL win over Birmingham, was a proud and happy moment for the winger.

Lauren Hemp’s remarkable WSL numbers

Hemp moved to Manchester in May 2018 from Bristol City and instantly became a fan-favourite and regular in City’s matchday squad.

And at just 26 years old, the England international became the Club’s fourth player in our history to hit a double century of appearances as we begun our title defence.

“I’m very proud,” said Hemp with a smile.

“I’m so happy to have done 200 games and hopefully there is many more to come. I was looking back this morning, and I was such a young girl coming into the club and not knowing what to expect.

“And to play 200 games is very special and feel like a bit of a veteran now even though I’m only 26!

“There are some amazing people ahead of me in the appearance list so it’s nice to be amongst them.”

Hemp was a constant outlet on the left wing, showcasing her pace, dribbling and impressive link-up play in the final third as second half goals from Mary Fowler and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw meant Oceane Hurtre’s late strike was merely a consolation.

Whilst City were a little slow to find a rhythm, Hemp was quick to point out that, for the team, it’s about building each week and getting the all-important three points.

It’s about building,” began Hemp when asked how important it was to earn the three points in our opening fixture of the new campaign.

“Birmingham are new to this league, we didn’t really know what to expect. We played them in the cup last season, and it was a difficult game for us.

“We wanted to start strong and the most important thing was to win the game.

“But I think you saw snippets of what we want to do this season and at the end of the day we want to retain the title and it’s the start of a long season so the win was the most important thing.”
