Henk ten Cate feels that Ajax’s Owen Wijndal isn’t fit enough at the moment and is in fact “a bit fat.”

There was much excitement when Ajax signed Wijndal from AZ given how good he had been for his former club, but he has made little impact since then.

That is partly because an injury ruled him out for a few weeks, but even since returning to the squad, he has played precious little with Daley Blind, Calvin Bassey and even Youri Baas ahead of him in the pecking order.

Ten Cate thinks his physical condition is a problem, arguing that the Dutchman is overweight.

“They got Wijndal, who was injured almost immediately,” he said on Ziggo Sport.

“But he is still far from fit. I even think he is a bit fat. He is too heavy.”
