FC Barcelona possess a well-balanced squad but are still expected to explore smart additions this summer. Sporting director Deco is likely working closely with Hansi Flick to identify reinforcements that align with the German coach’s tactical vision.

One player that has been linked with a move to Barcelona for the better part of a year now is Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah. Back then, the German international was in the final year of his contract and now, he is set to be a free agent.

Barcelona and their long-term Jonathan Tah interest

The interest Barcelona had in the player has see-sawed ever since, and even though Tah also seemed keen on making the move to the Catalan club, in recent weeks, it has looked like the 29-year-old will not move to Spain.

Tah has been ever-present for Xabi Alonso’s team this season, despite being on the last months of his contract. In 49 matches across all competitions this season, he has managed to score four goals and provided one assist.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano had revealed a few days ago that Bayern Munich were ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign the German defender. Now, the journalist has confirmed that the German giants have closed the deal.

Romano has provided his patented ‘here we go’ on the transfer, which means its all but done. Tah is now set to join Bayern Munich as a free agent from Bayer Leverkusen and is set to play for the German giants in the FIFA World Cup.

Bayern profit, Barcelona move on

Barcelona have a number of talented defenders in the squad who can play at central defence. The only way the club would have considered signing Tah was if one of them had left the club but that does not look like happening.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have secured a seasoned international defender who brings consistency and leadership. As Tah prepares for his next chapter in Munich, Barcelona will shift their focus to areas of greater need in the summer window.
