Hernan Crespo has been dismissed as Sao Paulo head coach, L'Équipe reports. The decision came on Tuesday, days after a 1-2 defeat to Palmeiras in the Sao Paulo state championship semi-finals.
The former Inter Milan, Parma and Chelsea striker, capped 64 times for Argentina with 35 goals, sees his second spell at the club end.
The timing is striking, with Sao Paulo joint leaders on 10 points from four matches. The side features former PSG winger Lucas Moura, 33. Last week, Filipe Luis was also sacked by Flamengo after an 8-0 win against Madureira.
Crespo was appointed in June last year following an earlier spell in 2021. He lifted Sao Paulo from 14th to eighth in the league, though they still missed the Copa Libertadores.
The 50-year-old is now a free agent. His honours include the 2024 Asian Champions League with Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates and the 2020 Copa Sudamericana with Defensa y Justicia, the equivalent of the Europa League.
