Charleroi were thankful for the heroics of Burkina Faso international goalkeeper Hervé Koffi as he saved a penalty in the sides 0-0 draw with bottom of the table RWDM. After a clumsy tackle from midfielder Daan Heymans, RWDM’s Martinique forward Mickaël Biron’s penalty was well save by Koffi to keep the game level.
Despite ending the game with 14 shots on goal, the home side struggled to really test Guillaume Hubert in the opposition goal. Only three of these shots were on target, with a final xG of just 0.90. This has been the sides problem all season, and if they are unable to find a way to resolve it quickly, these play-offs to avoid relegation could be closer than they should be. After this draw, both Kortrijk and Eupen have a chance to close the gap to just three points. The two sides play each other on Sunday afternoon.
One bright spark for the hosts was the performance of winger Parfait Guiagon. The 23-year-old Ivorian was a constant threat out wide and looked the likeliest of all players to create an opening. It is of little surprise that his five goals leads the team this campaign. New head coach Rik De Mil must find a way to get the side scoring and fast.
