Following their elimination in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, the Burkina Faso Football Federation has made its decision and terminated the contract of the national team coach.

Brahima Traoré is no longer the head coach of the Burkina Faso national team. In a statement released on January 14, 2026, the Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) announced the end of its "collaboration with the national coach."

This decision affects Brahima Traoré and all members of his technical staff, who have been leading the Stallions since March 2024.

The move comes after the team's early exit from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The Burkina Faso Federation explained that the decision was made due to results deemed below the targets set for the team ahead of this 35th AFCON edition.

The statement revealed that the goal was "clearly to reach at least the semifinals."

In reality, Burkina Faso was knocked out in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, following a disappointing 0-3 defeat against their traditional rivals and neighbors, Ivory Coast. The Stallions had also exited the tournament at the same stage in the previous edition in 2023, falling to Mali.

The Burkina Faso Football Federation has assured Stallions fans that the process of appointing a new head coach will begin as soon as possible.
