‘He’s Checked Inside And Bent One’ – Sunderland Talent Leaves Boss Hugely Impressed | OneFootball

Accrington Stanley boss John Doolan has hailed Sunderland talent Timur Tutierov for his goal against his side and pointed out that the player gave hard time to defender Ollie Smith.

Sunderland brought in the 21-year-old winger from Ukrainian side Kolos Kovalivka in 2023 and he spent the second half of the last season on loan with Exeter City learning English football.

Tutierov claimed his first start for Exeter City against Mansfield Town felt like the movies and he featured a total of 17 times for them while making four goal contributions.

Former Grecians boss Gary Caldwell praised him for his explosive speed and the ability to take players on one-on-one situations and Regis Le Bris handed him his Sunderland debut against Hull City in their EFL Cup game earlier this month.

Tutierov was on the bench for Sunderland’s fixture against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League last week and he started Sunderland Under-21s’ EFL Trophy game against Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

The winger had a brilliant game as he assisted Trey Samuel-Ogunsuyi’s goal in the first half and scored from outside of the opposition box with a right-footed strike to give them a 3-2 lead.

The match, however, ended with a 3-3 scoreline and Sunderland lost on penalties, but Doolan was impressed with Tutierov’s efforts and pointed out that he gave right-back Ollie Smith a hard time.

“It was hard in terms of Ollie Smith was up against a lad, that I have just spoke to Matthew Craddock, their manager, just saying that; he’s always been in and around the first-team, the kid [Tutierov] who I think scored the third, I think it was”, Doolan told Exeter City’s in-house media.

“He is [in Sunderland’s] Europa League squad, so it was difficult for Ollie.

“He gave him a difficult time in the first half.”

The Accrington Stanley boss claimed that Tutierov showed his quality during the third goal and admitted that his skill left him awestruck.

“The third one was the quality from the kid in the wide area where he’s checked inside and bent one in the far corner”, he added.

“So, sometimes you have to hold your hand up with skill like that.”

Despite their efforts, Sunderland Under-21s left the pitch with one point on Tuesday and next they will come up against League One side Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Trophy next month.

Tutierov, on the other hand, will be hoping that he will be able to impress Le Bris during the international break to get senior team game time.
