Marino Hinestroza, 23, arrived at Galeão Airport in the early hours of Sunday, becoming Vasco’s fourth signing for 2026. The Colombian forward touched down in Rio de Janeiro after the club moved to hijack Boca Juniors’ talks.
The club said in a statement that it had reached agreement with Atlético Nacional and that medicals and paperwork would follow before an official unveiling.
Speaking to media on arrival, he said he was delighted to join and highlighted Fernando Diniz’s role. Team-mate Johan Rojas first messaged him to say the coach wanted to talk, then Diniz called, which gave Hinestroza confidence about the move.
Hinestroza had been close to Boca Juniors, but Vasco intervened and closed the deal within three days. He said he had been committed to Boca’s proposal, then the clubs handled the decision, and he waited with his family while out of training for several days before agreement was reached with Vasco.
Vasco will pay about US$ 5 million, roughly R$ 30 million, for 80% of the forward’s economic rights. Hinestroza enjoyed his best year at Atlético Nacional in 2025, scoring seven goals with nine assists in 57 games, and winning the Colombian league and cup.
He said he understands the size of Vasco, coming from a heavyweight club in Colombia, and believes he can improve under Diniz. He added that the coach wants to help him reach his maximum level, and that he feels confident and eager to enjoy his football.
