"First of all, I have to say that I was incredibly annoyed with myself. That was naive. I thought the statements would be published the following week, but they were already made public on Saturday morning."

He had earlier put Eberl’s chances of a new contract at "60-40", a remark aired before Bayern Munich’s DFB-Pokal final.

"That meant Max wasn't treated well by me before the Pokal match. I apologised to him."
